War of 1812 in the Collections of the Lilly Library
Title
War of 1812 in the Collections of the Lilly Library
Description
The War of 1812 in the Collections of the Lilly Library is a collaborative effort of the Indiana University Bloomington Libraries, involving the Lilly Library, the Indiana University Digital Library Program, and the Indiana University Libraries Technical Services Department. The site provides description of the events leading up to the declaration of war, the war itself, and on through the after effects of the war. It does this through a combination of short essays and primary source material relating to various aspects of the war.

Several challenges were involved in creating this site. First, we needed to extract content from our Fedora Repository and create items in Omeka that linked back to the original application for that item, instead of a link to an item in Omeka. Another challenge was building exhibits that integrated these digital objects with the connective narrative provided by Erika Dowell, co-Director of the Lilly Library. And finally, we had to do some custom coding of the Simile Timeline plugin to create easier ways to navigate the timeline. This site is one of the earliest I developed and used Omeka 1.5.3.
