Description

The Modern Political Papers unit of the Indiana University Libraries is the home of the Richard G. Lugar Senatorial Collection, which contains items related to Lugar’s Senate career as well as his pre-Senate life. From March 22, 2019, to July 26, 2019, the Indiana University Libraries is displaying an exhibition drawn from these papers. The exhibition, Indiana’s Visionary Statesman, celebrates the life and achievements of Richard G. Lugar, the longest-serving United States Senator in Indiana’s history. Items in the exhibition were selected from this collection.

The Omeka site is an extension of the physical exhibit at the Ruth Lilly Rare Books LIbrary at Indiana University. The site uses several of the plugins I have developed as well as a customized version of the default theme.

Design

This site is a fairly straight forward customization of the default Omeka theme. I used two plugins I developed, Shortcode Anyfile which allows the placement of an image on a page using a shortcode that points to either a file on an item or a file in the images directory of the theme. And Avalon Video which allows the playback of media files in the Avalon Media Software developed by IU libraries using the Samvera development stack. In addition, this site uses the IIIF plugin to allow zooming on the various images for each of the items.
